The article has great timing considering the state of Pakistan. If you want to lead a nation astray the best method that has been used by many oppressors has been to disassociate the people from their culture, heritage & their language. Once we lose these, we lack self esteem as a nation & are lost ready to adopt any thing that is thrown or bombarded our way which is happening. I wish & hope that we including myself take some time to connect ourselves with our heritage so that we have something to offer our next generation & salvage their sense of pride in the culture & heritage. It has so much to offer! The opening paragraph states that 'Readers may, of course, disagree and make their own lists.'
But then the title of the article 'The 100 Best Urdu Books' should have been 'My Favorite 100 Urdu Books.' As the comments indicate that there are some notable omissions-books which should be part of any objectively prepared list of '100 Best Urdu Books.' Dr Parekh is a respected scholar and nevertheless this is useful list, however, I suggest that he contact the leading Urdu literary figures of today (of Pakistan, India and other countries) and prepare a list of '100 Best Urdu Book' based on the combined opinion.
Given his position and access to other scholars, he can easily accomplish this. I will be happy to help him in this endeavor.
